I would feeling comfortable sharing and exploring my artistic process with any neighborhood. I have experience working in almost every comer of Detroit with the community centers and also with DPS after school programming. I have a good connection already established with the youth in the southwest Vernor neighborhood and the northeast Osborn neighborhood, but please do not let that limit me.
To gather inspiration for this project I would ask a lot of questions and do a lot of listening. I would explore the area and see what is there. I would think about would could be there or what a child would enjoy seeing there. I would wonder what the elderly has always wanted there and what could lighten up the day of the hard working moms and dads at a glance. I have established multiple facets of my ability to be an artist. I love making my art work, in my studio and that is one thing. I also love making art work for others. Weather it is fulfilling a commission or working on a community project my whole heart goes into it. I have come to realize that manifesting the vision of others is a skill set of its own. I practice my craftsmanship always, drawing, painting and SCUlpting. I also practice my ability to hear, understand, observe and share in a vision.
Including the youth would be the best part. I so enjoy brainstorming with children, with the ideas and with the marks that they make. Depending on what the neighborhood needs and wants I would also enjoy engaging them in the working processes as well. Working in a team is fun and you can get lots done with good communication and guidance.
As an artist, I feel my skills are very diverse both in two and three dimensional applications. As a coordinator, I have experience making a lot out of a little for many to share. As a person I love to help.
