I began drawing and painting at a young age. I was 7 years old when my 2nd grade teacher started using me to help make illustrations to decorate the classroom. I have always been interested in art that represents indigenous cultures from all over the world but I specifically have always been drawn to Mayan and Amerindian art and cultures. My love for cultural diversity and how art can encourage the uniting of people from different walks of life moved me to paint my first mural at the age of 17 during the end of my junior year and all of my senior year in high school. The mural doesn’t formally have a title but generically speaking you can just call it a multicultural mural. The mural was completed in 1999 right before I graduated from high school. My motivation for painting the mural was to encourage multiculturalism and to inspire other young people to be moved to beautify their surrounding with art and to move them to want to learn about different cultures and interact with people whom they otherwise would not. I do not consider myself to be a “professional” artist because it is not what I have been able to do full-time but I would love to be able to contribute my time and talents into created similar works through the city. The mural is still in room 513 of Romulus High School 10 years later and counting
