Welcome to community+public arts:DETROIT! Developed as a program at the College for Creative Studies in the Midtown and New Center areas of Detroit, our primary focus is to guide the development of community-based public art in the six neighborhoods of the Skillman Good Neighborhoods Initiative.
C+PAD pairs young people and community members with established Detroit artists. Teams work together to develop public art projects that: reach beyond the typical arts audience; engage the community in unique ways; engage with their sites, taking into account specific communities, the built environment, and/or the political and social histories of the site. The purpose of this website is to facilitate the connection between C+PAD, artists, and community.
C+PAD was developed with grants by the Skillman Foundation, J P Morgan Chase Foundation and Kresge Foundation and expanded through the College for Creative Studies. The foundations have invested in the program to meet the following goals: economic development, youth development, and arts development in the community.
